Life Works in Funny Ways

Last week as I was driving and listening to the radio, I thought to myself about how I haven't gone to any concerts in a while. As a young teenager this is all I seemed to do and would forgo pretty much any other offers to stand and watch my favorite musicians spill their souls out. I must have gone to at least 60 concerts between the ages of 14 and 17, some of which were multiple day-long music festivals where I would see upwards of 7 shows a day. I calmed myself down by realising that I always go see a show if it's one of my favs- I would never miss a Sufjan Stevens or Regina Spektor show, no 'maam.

I quickly got to thinking about how I had never seen Sigur Ros, an Icelandic band which is incomparable to any other. For one, they don't sing in English, or Icelandic really for that matter. They combine clever Icelandic wordplay with made-up syllables and words, using voice as another instrument along with flutes, trombones, violins, multiple drum kits, pianos, organs and electric guitar both the usual way and by violin bow and many others. This combination provides us with ethereal and emotional works of art that are almost inexplicably beautiful.
Flash forward no more than three days and what do I see on my facebook newsfeed, an old friend of mine from highschool who I haven't talked to in over 3 years has this status, I kid-you-not: "Anyone want to see Sigur Rós with me on Monday? I have an extra ticket, let me know." The next day I was on my way to Deer Lake Park in Burnaby, heart thumping and ticket in hand.

A Handful of Years

Today marked five whole years of dating my best friend. That's a whole handful! And I gotta say, the best handful of my life. We've grown into adults together and helped each other be the best versions of ourselves. Since that very first kiss to travelling the world to our own home together we've been through a lot and made it out stronger than ever. I can't imagine life without this guy and I'm so thankful and lucky to have him in my life.

To celebrate we decided to keep it chill, do things we really like doing together. So we had burgers at our favorite place, drove around to look at all the beautiful flowers blooming in our neighbourhood, and pushed our couches together to watch Planet Earth and eat fudge sundaes. It was the perfect day for the perfect occasion.

On the one hand, I can't believe it's been five years already, and on the other I can't remember I time when we weren't dating. Even before we were dating we were best friends for years so it kinda feels like Joel was always there. It's an awesome thing when a friendship can turn into something more and I'm still so happy it did.
Here's to five more years of love and adventure!!

My days have been filled with...

Ever since making my first terrarium, I've been hooked on plants and the effect they have on our day to day lives. My house has since filled up with them, both indoors and out.

It was a week and weekend filled to the brim with smiles and hugs and flowers, what more could a girl possibly ask for? I got to hang out with one of my best friends and her ADORABLE child, seriously it took me like 20 minutes deciding which picture to choose because this kid is so cute. <3 I think this is one of those pictures that will always make me smile, defs a keeper.
